LithuaniaThe Grand Duchy of Lithuania - one of the two founding states of the Commonwealth, the Grand Duchy of Lithuania rose to prominence during the 13th century, uniting the Lithuanian tribes and then expanding into the territories of the former Kievan Rus. In 1386, the Kingdom of Poland and the Grand Duchy of Lithuania signed the Union of Krewo paving the way for the creation of the Commonwealth in 1569 under the Union of Lublin.
